Alabama Real Estate Education Requirements

The information below is a summary of the minimum requirements set forth by the Alabama Real Estate Commission. For a more detailed requirements breakdown, please see the board's site.

Alabama Real Estate Licensees are required to take 15 continuing education hours every 24 months including 6 mandatory hours in Risk Management. 
 
The fifteen hours of education is as follows,

- Three (3) clock hours in Risk Management – Level 1  In this level, brokers and salespersons shall take the Risk Management: Avoiding Violations course.

- Three (3) clock hours in Risk Management – Level 2  In this level, regardless of license level licensees can take either Risk Management for Salespersons or Risk Management for Brokers. If they take both, one will count as an elective. (Effective 10/1/16)

- The remaining nine (9) hours of continuing education can be any approved course.

**The deadline to renew your license is August 31st but you will have until September 30th to satisfy the continuing education requirements.
 
NOTE: If you have an inactive license you will ONLY need 15 hours of CE to reactivate. You do NOT need CE every year but you do need to renew your license by 8/31 each year.

Online Limitations

The Alabama Real Estate Commission requires that all online courses are completed within one year from the date of enrollment.  There is no limit to the number of CE hours that may be taken online.

Roster Process: Rosters are submitted electronically everyday.Once a license is renewed, course credit gets moved to the "Archive" section associated with the licensee's record.

In order for you license to remain on active status, you must complete your education by midnight Friday, September 30th of your renewal year.
Education not completed by September 30th will be placed on inactive status. Licensees will need to submit a re-activation fee of $25 ($28.50 if done online).

POST LICENSING requirements: Must complete a 30 hour post license training course within the first twelve months of licensure in order to be issued an original (permanent) license. Further, the course must be completed and original license issued within the first six months in order to maintain an active license.
