FAQs

I’ve completed my appraisal qualifying education courses and I am working with a supervisor to gain my experience hours, when do I have to upgrade my license? Or can I remain a trainee?

Many states do not require that you upgrade your license from a trainee license, however, trainees are paid very little oftentimes by their supervisory appraiser. Trainees cannot work independently and cannot complete complex appraisal assignments.

You should contact your state board for specific information on requirements for your state. Click on the state name in the table below to link to the state board website.

Alabama Hawaii Michigan North Carolina Texas
Arizona Idaho Minnesota North Dakota Utah
Arkansas Illinois Mississippi Ohio Vermont
California Indiana Missouri Oklahoma Virgin Islands
Colorado Iowa Montana Oregon Virginia
Connecticut Kansas Nebraska Pennsylvania Washington
Delaware Kentucky Nevada Puerto Rico West Virginia
District of Columbia Louisiana New Jersey Rhode Island Wisconsin
Florida Maine New Mexico South Carolina Wyoming
Georgia Maryland New York South Dakota
