Utah Real Estate Education Requirements

The information below is a summary of the minimum requirements set forth by the Utah Department of Commerce. For a more detailed requirements breakdown, please see the board's site.

Online Info

Utah Real Estate Agents/Brokers are required to take 18 continuing education hours every 24 months. 9 of the 18 hours must be in approved CORE topics.

Note: Beginning January 2020, all active real estate licensees will be required to complete a New Mandatory 3-Hour Continuing Education course to be eligible to renew their license. 
The requirement to complete the mandatory course is effective for all licensee with an expiration/renewal date after 1/1/2020; Even if licensees already have their 18 hours, (including 9 core) they will be required to have this course completed and banked to their account in order to renew each cycle from that date forward.


Licensees are to take their Continuing Education by the 15th of the month of expiration, in order to renew on time, without incurring a $50 late fee.


First Renewal only: To renew at the end of the first renewal cycle, a licensee must complete the 12-hour New Sales Agent course AND an additional 6 hours of non-duplicative hours of CE which may be either core or elective.


Late Renewal only: License renewal which is after 30 days but withing six months a licensee much complete 24 hours of CE of which 9 of those are Core credits.. After 6 months but within 12 months a licensee must complete 42 hours of CE of which 9 of those are Core credits.  Note: After 1 year, a licensee must apply for a new license.


No Final Exam Passing Requirement.

Online Limitations

Licensees may only take up to 8 hours of CE per day. 

There are no limits on the number of CE hours allowed to be taken online.

Utah Real Estate Commission requires a timing mechanism  for all distance education courses to ensure that courses cannot be completed in less time than the approved credit hours. Please note that your course will time out after 10 minutes of inactivity!

Roster Process: Rosters are submitted electronically every Wednesday. (Please allow 24 hrs. to post.) Rosters must be submitted within 10 days of course completion. **If you need or want the roster submitted earlier than the scheduled date, there is a $10 rush fee for that service.**
